CRACKS TOP 10 OF BMX OLYMPIC TEST EVENT
Nyhaug finishes fourth of Time Trials; improves
World ranking by two three spots to sit in fourth
(London, GBR – August 20, 2011) Canadian BMX
and Time Trials Champion Tory Nyhaug of Coquitlam, British
Columbia finished in tenth position at the 2011 UCI
BMX Supercross World Cup in London, Great Britain, the
2012 Olympic Summer Games Test Event and fourth of five
UCI Supercross event of the 2011 calendar.
Nyhaug, 19 years old, qualified for the semi-final
with a fourth place in the qualifiers and a second place
in the quarter-finals. In his semi-final heat, Nyhaug
finished fifth in a heat that included some of the best
in the business such as 2010 World Champion Maris Strombergs
of Latvia, Nicholas Long of the United States and Sam
Willoughby of Australia.
Marc Willers of New-Zealand, ranked #2 in the World
rankings and bronze medallist at the 2011 World Championships,
went on to take the victory on the second-last Supercross
race of the season. Defending World Champion and top-ranked
Joris Daudet of France took the second place, while
American Nicholas Long placed third.
Last night, in the Time Trials race -not an Olympic
event- Nyhaug went on to finish fourth, missing the
podium by just one spot. He posted a time of 43.666
seconds on the 2012 Olympic BMX Supercross track, while
winner Sam Willoughby of Australia crossed the line
with a time of 42.625 seconds.
Nyhaug jumped up three spots in the UCI Supercross
World rankings, going from seventh to fourth after today’s
race. The young sensation has had a great season on
the Supercross World tour with a third place in Time
Trials at the opening World Cup race, a fourth place
in the Supercross in Papendal, Netherlands, a second
place at the 2011 European Championships and a perfect
two victories at the 2011 Canadian BMX Championships.
Jim Brown of Airdrie, Alberta, placed 112, and did
not finish the time trials race last night, a qualifiers
for today’s Supercross.
