07.27.11 - TORY NYHAUG LOOKING FOR REDEMPTION AT 2011 UCI BMX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Nyhaug back in full form after a ruptured spleen at 2010 Worlds

(Copenhaguen, DEN – July 27, 2011) The 2011 UCI BMX World Championships are held this weekend in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Canada’s team is ready to take on the best in the world at this most prestigious event on the 2011 calendar.

Watch for pro-riders and Canadian team members Tory Nyhaug of Coquitlam, BC and James Brown of Airdrie, AB in the men’s Elite category, as well as for Chelsea Kingston in the Junior women’s race and Connor McCormack in the men’s Junior category.

Ranked seventh in the world entering these Worlds, Nyhaug has had much success on the UCI SuperCross (SX) tour this season, stepping on the podium in the time trials Superfinal at the opening SX of the season in Pietermaritzburg, RSA, in addition to his win at the Canadian Open and his second place at the 2011 European Championships.

Nyhaug, a multiple World Champion in various age groups, is back at the UCI World Championships after missing last year SX event due to a ruptured spleen suffered while in a training session at the 2010 Worlds.

Brown, the current Canadian Champion, is also no stranger to international competition, regularly racing on the competitive international scene. Ninth at the 2007 UCI World Championships held in Victoria, BC, Brown is hungry to repeat his performance and could have a breakthrough performance this season.

Riders from 38 nations will attack the 345-meter track designed by Tom Ritzenthaler.

The Canadian team is led by Adam Muys, BMX head coach for the Canadian Cycling Association.

BMX World Championships racing starts on Friday with the presentation of the Time Trials Finals, and ends on Saturday with the much anticipated SX race.

BMX fans from across the world will be able to watch the Supercross race live at www.freecaster.tv on Saturday, as well as follow the races with Live Timing at http://www.uci.ch/templates/BUILTIN-NOFRAMES/Template1/layout.asp?MenuId=MTYxNzU&LangId=1 and on Twitter at www.twitter.com/bmxcopenhagen
