07.19.11 - The
43rd edition of the Tour de l’Abitibi/Coupe des
Nations popular bike ride was a success!
AMOS (July 18, 2011) - The 43rd edition of the Tour
de l’Abitibi/Coupe des Nations popular bike ride
was held tonight! This event, which followed the presentation
of the cyclists, allowed citizens to cycle through the
urban circuit with cyclists from everywhere in the world.
The Tour de l’Abitibi/Coupe des Nations organization
proceeded with the opening ceremony by presenting the
23 teams on the stage situated at the finish line on
1st West Avenue, in Amos. The mayor then launched the
popular bike ride were everyone was invited to cycle
through the 5 km circuit that will be used by the cyclists
during the week. The 300 persons present for the event
organized by Vélo Cité were joined by
most of the cyclists from the Tour.
The weather was nice and refreshments were offered
to the participants at the finish line. The event
attracted people of all ages and aroused a contagious
excitement that lets us believe that the 2011 edition
will be a success.
To ensure everyone’s safety, the Sureté
du Québec and many volunteers were along the
circuit to close streets and redirect traffic. In short,
the citizens forming tonight’s peloton had a lot
of fun living a unique experience. We want to mention
that the Restaurant Suco, which is on 1st West Avenue,
will be the finish line for the stages of Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday morning.
The organization committee wishes to see you around
to cheer the cyclists from July 19 to July 24.
