08.13.10 - Ryan MacDonald 9th
at Youth Olympic Games in Time Trial
Kristina Laforge 3rd in the Women's Mountain
Bike on Tuesday
(Singapore - August 18, 2010) Canadian cyclist Ryan
MacDonald (Greenhill, NS) finished 7th in the Men's
Time Trial at the inaugural edition of the Youth Olympic
Games in Singapore on Wednesday.
This represents a good performance by this young cyclist
who was called up at the last minute to replace his
injured teammate, Stuart Wight.
"I'm really happy with how I did, as a 3 km strength
course is not really my thing... I'm also happy because
I know I definitely have a shot at the road race,"
said Ryan MacDonald, the 2010 Canadian Road Race Champion.
Ryan will compete again on Sunday in the Road race.
MacDonald completed the 3.2 kilometre course in four
minutes, 09.61 seconds, 12 seconds behind the gold medalist,
Rafael Ferreira Reis of Portugal.
On Tuesday, Steve Noble (Glencairn, ON) finished 13th
of the Men's Mountain Bike event. Noble finished the
course with a time of 1:03.34, trailing the gold medalist
just under five minutes. In the Women's cross country,
Canadian Kristina Laforge (Alma, QC) came third with
a time of 49.22, two minutes behind the leader and eight
seconds behind the second place.
Canada now sits in 7th position for the cycling competition,
equal with Denmark with 92 points. Italy currently leads
this competition with 38 points.
The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games aims to inspire
youth around the world to embrace, embody and express
the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.
